1998年,青森県のある牧場に新規導入された20羽のダチョウが持続性の乳白色下痢を示し,相次いで死亡した.これらのうち5例について検索したところ,1例からSalmonella Typhimuriumとクリプトスポリジウムが検出された.病理組織学的に,空腸および回腸の絨毛が著しく短縮し,粘膜表面 線条縁に多数の微小球状物が観察された.球状物は抗Cryptosporidium parvum抗体を用いた免疫組織化学的染色に陽性を示し,超微形態学的にもクリプトスポリジウムであることが確認された.寄生部位 は腸管(特に空回腸)に限られ,胃や気管支粘膜を含め他組織での寄生は認められなかった. ―キーワード:クリプトスポリジウム,病理組織学,免疫組織化学,ダチョウ,超微形態学.

Cryptosporidium sp. being kept in Aomori Prefecture, Japan. The bird was emaciated and prostrate and demonstrated persistent
diarrhea. Histologically, the villi of the jejunum and ileum were markedly shortened; and numerous round-to-ovoid
structures could be observed within or attached to the surface of the villous epithelium. These organisms
were immunohistochemically stained by the monoclonal antibody against the Cryptosporidium parvum oocyst.
In addition, Cryptosporidium was ultrastructurally identified. Cryptosporidia were localized in the jejunum
and the ileum and could be detected in no other organs, including the crop and the bronchus.
