| 1998年8〜10月に，石川県において23年ぶりにアカバネウイルス（AKV）が流行し，1998年12月〜1999年5月に9例の異常産が発生した．1例は流産，3例は関節湾曲，2例は虚弱，3例は大脳欠損が主徴で，大脳欠損は流行後半の1999年3〜5月に発生した．流行時に採血したおとり牛血清および血球から6株のAKVが分離された．分離株は，中和試験でJaGAr39，OBEh1およびNBEh9株と交差反応を示したが，Iriki株とは片側交差反応を示した．分離株のS
RNA核蛋白コード領域の塩基配列を決定し，進化系統樹解析を行ったところ，JaGAr39およびOBEh1株と同じグループに属し，1988および1989年に長崎および沖縄県で分離された株に類似していることが判明した．

Prevalence of Akabane Virus and Properties of Its Isolates in Ishikawa Prefecture

SUMMARY
Nine cases of congenital abnormalities were observed from December 1998 to May 1999 in Ishikawa Prefecture. One was a case of stillbirth, three were cases of arthrogryposis, and two were instances of weak constitution. Three cases of hydranencephaly occurred from March to May during the latter phase of this epidemic. Six strains of Akabane virus (AKV) were isolated from serum and blood cell samples taken from six sentinel cattle. Cross-neutralizing tests showed these isolates to be identically antigenic to the JaGAr39, OBEh1, and NBEh9 strains of AKV but to be antigenically more distant from the Iriki strain of AKV. Comparisons of genetic properties of 23 strains of AKV as determined by phylogenetic analysis of the S RNA sequence showed the isolates to belong to the cluster including the JaGAr39, OBEh1, and NBEh9 strains and to be similar to strains isolated in 1988 and 1989
