分娩後のアンガスおよびヘレフォード母牛とその哺乳子牛12組を,品種および年齢が一致するように6組ずつ給与群と対照群の2群に分けた.給与群の母牛にはセレン(Se)酵母を添加した配合飼料(Se :
0.525mg/体重100kg/日)を11週間給与し,対照群にはSe酵母飼料を給与せずに11週間飼養した.両群の子牛について血清Se濃度,末梢血好中球機能,リンパ球幼若化能を調べた.給与群の子牛では対照群に比べて血清Se濃度は3週間後から有意に高値を示し,全血および分離顆粒球の化学発光反応のピーク時間が5週間後に有意に短縮し,コンカナバリンA刺激によるリンパ球幼若化能も5週間後に有意に増加した.この結果,母牛へのSe酵母の給与は乳汁を介したSeの移行により,子牛の好中球およびリンパ球の機能を増強させることが示唆された.

Effects of Feeding Selenium-enriched Yeast to Beef Dams on LeukocyteFunction in Their Suckling Calves'Yoshitaka MATSUI, Tsunao HIRAI, Sadao ONOE,Naohito KUSAKARI, Satoshi KAWAMOTO, Junko KOHARA and Kiyokazu MORI
SUMMARY Twelve postpartum, nursing Angus and Hereford beef dams were divided into 2 groups. In the experimental
groups, feed enriched with Selenium (Se) was given to 6 dams (Se: 0.525 mg/100 kg of body weight/day)
for 11 weeks. The second, or control, group consisted of 6 beef dams species- and aged-matched with the
dams in the experimental group and kept under the same conditions except for Se supplementation. Suckling
calves were examined for serum-Se concentration, peripheral neutrophil function, and lymphocyte blastogenesis.
After 3 weeks, serum-Se concentration was significantly higher in calves of dams receiving Se supplements
than in those of control dams. Assays using whole blood and isolated granulocytes showed that, at 5 weeks,
in the experimental group, it took significantly less time to reach peak chemi-luminescence (CL) than
it did in control calves. Furthermore, after 5 weeks, response of lymphocyte-stimulated concanavalin
A was significantly higher in experimental animals than that in control animals. These results suggest
that feeding dams Se-enriched yeast enhances the neutrophil and lymphocyte functions of suckling calves,
to which Se is transferred through milk.
